Veteran killed in New Llano shooting

Dec. 04--Just after midnight on Sunday, the VPSO were called in regards to a shooting at The Spot Lounge on Billy Goat Hill in New Llano.

The deceased victim was identified as Mark Fernandez Sr., age 54, of Leesville.

The injured male subjects were identified as William "Willie" Matz, age 38, of Leesville, and Brandon Lemmons, age 39, of Anacoco.

The two injured victims were immediately transported to area medical facilities by EMS personnel. They are both currently listed in stable condition.

Fernandez was a father and grandfather beloved by his family and friends. He was a U.S. Army veteran who dedicated 20 years of his life in service to the country.

Many in the community are mourning his tragic loss.

No arrests have been made in relation to the shooting. The VPSO has conducted several witness interviews and is encouraging those with information to come forward.

The crime has sent shockwaves through the community and has caused speculation to run rampant. No suspect or potential motive has been released at this time.
