CONOVER George Raymond Leagon, 71, of Conover passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Catawba Regional Hospice. He was born October 31, 1945 in Catawba County to the late Frank Miller Leagon, Sr. and Aileen Somers Leagon. Raymond was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Newton, a United States Air Force Veteran and retired after 24 years of service as a substance abuse counselor at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Mountain Home, TN. He received the Tennessee Outstanding Veteran Patient Volunteer award in 1995 presented by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Frank M. Leagon, Jr., John W. Leagon and Robert V. Leagon; sister, Carolyn S. Leagon; great-nephew, Evan Merrill. Those left to cherish his memory are; Sister: Sally L. Sigmon and husband Trigger of Newton, Sister-in-law: Johnnie Hallman Leagon of Conover, Special Friend: Jewell Coulter and sons, Trey (Mary) Carly, and Charley, Nieces and Nephews: Mark Leagon (Tina), Jeff Leagon (Jackie), Steven Leagon (Clara), Beth Carlin (James) and Caroline Ingle (Wes), Great-Nieces and Nephews: Emily Leagon, Audrey Leagon, Amanda Leagon, Betsy Ingle, Georgia Ingle, Leagon Carlin, Charlotte Leagon, Julia Leagon, Sarah Carlin Favro (Matt), John Carlin, Ethan Merrill (Amber), Great-Great-Nieces and Nephews: Peyton Merrill, Avery Merrill, Colin Favro, Addy Favro and Lucy Favro. A service to celebrate Raymond's life will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel at First Presbyterian Church in Newton. Rev. Fred Thompson and Rev. Connie Button will officiate. A private burial will follow with military honors by American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. in the chapel at First Presbyterian Church. Those serving as pallbearers are; Charles Shepherd, Wes Ingle, Charley Coulter, Mark Leagon, Jeff Leagon and Trey Coulter. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to ECCCM, P.O.
