BRIEF: Neal Veterans Scholarship awarded

Walla Walla Union-Bulletin - 2/18/2017

Feb. 17--Sean Sanders is the latest recipient of a Stanley Neal Veterans Scholarship at Walla Walla Community College.

Sean served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 5, 1995, until Jan. 5,1997, and was deployed to Bosnia for Operation Joint Endeavor during winter 1996, said Kelly Snell, manager of the WWCC Worker Retraining Program.

The award honors local veterans who need extra assistance paying tuition and school fees, Kelly said. It's named after Stanley A. Neal, a Dayton native and World War II veteran who ran a mechanic shop and gas station in Dayton and who undercharged families undergoing tough times for repairs and often didn't charge any fees.

"Stanley, like many veterans, served honorably and came home and lived up to the high military and family values and continued to serve his community," Kelly said.

"The WWCC Worker Retraining program strives to aid local students in gaining valuable workforce training.
