Tom Walther is Veteran of the Year

June 22--Retired Air Force Capt. Tom Walther of Yuba City was honored as the 2017 Veteran of the Year for the 3rd Assembly District by Assemblyman James Gallagher.

He and other veterans from the state's Assembly districts were honored Wednesday at the 10th annual Veteran of the Year Recognition Luncheon in Sacramento.

Walther enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1964 and retired as a captain in 1988.

His assignments included PAVE PAWS at Beale Air Force Base.

He is a graduate of Officer Training School, NCO Leadership School, and has a bachelor's degree from Chaminade University, Hawaii, and a master's from Golden Gate University.

Walther currently serves as first vice president of the Military Officers Association, California area; board member of the Beale Military Liaison Council; and as vice chair of Yuba/Sutter County Emergency Food and Shelter Program and Yuba/Sutter County Emergency Housing Assistance Program.

He has also served as chief executive officer at Peach Tree Healthcare and Chief Operating Officer at Sutter North Medical Foundation.

Gallagher, R-Yuba City, represents the 3rd Assembly District, which encompasses Glenn, Sutter, Tehama and Yuba counties, as well as portions of Butte and Colusa counties.
