LORAIN, Ohio — Victims of domestic violence now have a new place to go for help, without leaving their homes.

Genesis House, which helps battered women, has launched an outreach Web site that will bring vital information to people who might be reluctant to seek help elsewhere, said the group’s executive director, Marilyn Zeidner.

“It’s for any victims of domestic violence, friends, family, employers,” she said. “I really believe it affects everybody, even if it’s indirectly.” The Web site — www.networkofcare.org — is the first of its kind to focus on domestic violence on the larger site, Zeidner said.

Run by California-based Trilogy Integrated Resources, the Network of Care focuses on creating one-stop Web sites for those with questions on various topics, including disabilities and mental health. The company primarily partners with local and state governments to help people locally, but much of the information is universal, according to the Web site.

Zeidner said it’s critical that women who are being abused have information available to them quickly so they can make a “safety plan” when they escape their troubled relationships.

Of the 4,000 women killed every year in domestic violence-related slayings, Zeidner said about 75 percent die just before or just after they leave the abusive partner.

“There is help available,” she said.

The Web site’s design and implementation is being funded by a $32,000 grant from the Stocker Foundation and will also be usable by those providing services to domestic violence victims to discuss ideas and debate possible solutions to the problem.
